Although the marketing discipline continues to make progress on multiple fronts, there has been growing concern in recent years about the lack of emphasis on conceptual/theoretical contributions. This is detrimental to long-term knowledge development in our field and significantly diminishes its impact and influence.The proposed initiative addresses this issue. Its overarching objective is to help advance theory development in the marketing discipline. Given the significant role played by doctoral students in a discipline, the initiative will be launched with a Doctoral Competition for Conceptual Articles that will be organized annually by AMS Review (AMSR).

AMS is an official partner of the 2017 Emerging Markets Conference Board Annual Conference to be hosted in India. The conference will take place January 6-8, 2017 at the IIM Lucknow Noida campus in the National Capital Region of India. Deadline for abstract submission is August 30th 2016. The Harold and Muriel Berkman Charitable Foundation® once again announces its Grant and Scholarship Application process for 2016. In the last two years, the Foundation has awarded over $50,000 in grants and scholarships. The deadline for applying is in August. The Harold & Muriel Berkman Charitable Foundation, Inc.® made its first awards in 2014. The Board of Directors met on November 20 and completed awards to 21 students and two faculty members. Among the students, 12 are US Combat Veterans, with 5 earning a Combat Infantryman Badge and three earning Bronze Stars. In addition, several awards went to promising marketing students and two grants were awarded to further the development of science in marketing. The Award Committee received over 150 scholarship applications and three dozen grant proposals.
